About

A unique, modern take on the classic game. The counterstrike variant adds a level system and special powers to all of the pieces, introduces a simple resource management of counters, and adds additional tactical options in the form of counters. In chess counterstrike, each piece has a maximum of 3 levels. The level of the piece is increased by placing a counter under it in loeu of moving a piece on your turn. Generally, the first level is a special attack, the second level improves movement, and the third level is a special ability. Counters can also be placed on the board as landmines to restrict movements, plan for better board positions, or setup a future attack. While the classic mechanics of chess are maintained, counters cannot be ignored. The special attacks create new ways for checks and checkmates and present new end game conditions. You must have at least one counter in your supply at the end of turn or you lose the game and if you control three times as many counters as the beginning of your turn you win the game. —description from the designer
